A workshop between typography, calligraphy, and psychogeography that I ran in collaboration with Francesca Valsecchi at Tongji University (Shanghai).
We spent a sunny day out in Siping road, and looked (really looked!) at the trees, leaves, fences, bricks, windows, doors, smoked cigarettes, candy packages etc. that we found. How to render these things and the feelings they convey through calligraphy? what tools should be used (or built)? What do the strokes look like? How can these strokes be assembled into letters or characters (real or imaginary)?
The works you see in this page have all been created by the students of the Typography module in the Visual Communication degree at Tongji University College of Design&Innovation.
